C – Cortisol

Day 4

Cortisol is known as the stress hormone.

Cortisol is necessary to help restore your system to normal (homeostatis) after a stressful event. If you are under chronic, prolonged stress, your adrenals can produce too much cortisol, which may contribute to a number of health issues including insomnia, impaired memory, irritability, weakened immune system, osteoporosis and high blood pressure.

The brain responds to the way in which you think and feel. This in turn affects the type of hormones and neuro-chemicals that are released into the body.

One of the ways in which I remember to do stress techniques is to think of that game Mouse Trap. One thing affects another, creating a chain reaction in the body. When you get caught up in the stress of the moment, it is important to remember that you can do heart-activated techniques to turn off the cortisol tap.

What does heart-activated mean to you?
