You don't need to be in the intense "can't sleep, can't think" blossoming of new love. It's the "calmer, more stable" form of love that provides you with health gains.

The good thing is that love doesn't discriminate and define. The benefits are available to you when you experience love for your family members, friends and pets. However, don't stop there. Expand those feelings and include places, things and ideas.

Mind Your Manners Feelings

When anger, hatred, frustration and all the other negative emotions provide the fuel for your day, your system is not operating optimally. When you regularly immerse yourself in those emotions, you feel drained and stressed.

The paradox is that the more you feel those emotions, the more you feel them. You become habituated to the everyday look-for-what's-wrong in the world. Guess what! You'll find it.

Between the pandemic, protests, environmental issues and personal trials, it takes a deliberate and daily dedication to minding my feelings, so that I don't drown in negativity. Now, more than ever, I am thankful for the self-care strategies that are a regular part of my life.

On Valentine's Day

On "Heart Day," soak in the love tub of positive feelings, if only for a few minutes at a time. Reflect on the people, places, things and ideas you love. It's good for you. It's good for your heart.
