Mood Shifts

Who knows what it was? A full moon. The collective energy of the group. Too many days of indoor recess when the temperatures exceeded -50 with the windchill. Like a bag of dropped marbles, the attention spans of the children seemed to roll off in all directions.

I recently recalled an activity I did that helped my students gather up their scattered thoughts so that they could settle down and refocus.

In my best dramatic voice, I informed the class that they were going on a voyage. In order to do so, they had to close their eyes, listen carefully and step through a secret doorway. I would then take them over hill, through dale and around the world and beyond, liberally sprinkling the adventure with adjectives, packing it with powerful verbs and my poorly-executed sound-effects.

Five minutes later, I had a classroom full of students who were like so many rosy apples on a tree - ripe - not for picking, but for learning.

Then, I just knew that it worked. Now, that I am Auntie Stress, I know why it worked.

I was able to tap into the children's sense of wonder and curiosity, suspending them in a make-believe world that allowed them to access positive emotions and ultimately, experience a shift in mood.

It doesn't take a lot of time to shift into a better mood. You may already do it without being aware of it. You take a walk, have a bath, call your friend, listen to some music, draw, sing or paint. Perhaps you have a drink, eat or smoke. Your brain's Feeling Centre - the amygdala - is helping you to recall something you did that made you feel better the last time, even if that something is harmful, such as smoking.

When you balance the nervous system through the power of your heart, your heart, mind, emotions and body work together - effectively, efficiently and effortlessly. In the coaching program you learn how to use your Feeling Centre to your advantage, so you choose better-feeling actions - ones that are healthier for you. You access your Thinking Centre - the prefrontal cortex (PFC) - and improve your performance, sharpen your intuition and stimulate your creativity. You feel better - emotionally, mentally, physically, spiritually. What's not to love about that? Even if you've been immersed in stress for decades like I was, it is never too late to make changes for the better. Your body will thank you.

What you can do

When the moon is full, you're surrounded by negative energy, or have too much indoor recess time, shift your mood with these tips:

  1. Take a virtual trip to places past, present or future.
  2. Make a list of all the things you like and love.
  3. Get coherent by spending time on the emWave® Desktop. This is something I do everyday, for a few minutes at a time. I like the confirmation that I get when I see my heart rhythm improve when I move out of stress.
  4. Take a five-session coaching course. Learn. Grow. Feel better.

You're ready to feel better!

Sign up for the coaching program and get it all - coaching, workbook, in-stock book of your choice, integration emails, technology and support. All this for your investment of $787.00.

You want to do it on your own?

emWave® Desktop is a scientifically validated hardware/software system that teaches techniques to help you create an optimal state in which the heart, mind and emotions are operating in-sync and are balanced. This is achieved through a patented process which displays heart rhythm patterns in real time showing you when you are in this high performance state. This is called coherence.

emWave® Desktop helps you achieve coherence and alignment through simple-to-learn exercises and feedback. Using a pulse sensor plugged into your USB port, emWave® Desktop collects pulse data and translates coherence information into user-friendly graphics displayed on your computer screen.

Through coherence techniques, interactive exercises and game play, emWave® Desktop helps you bring your heart and mind into a coherent state, building resilience, increasing energy and promoting focus, mental clarity and emotional balance.

I wish I had one of these in my classroom when I was teaching! It's the perfect tool to help students regain balance so that they are primed to learn. The games and activities guide them to improve their heart rhythms and regulate their emotions so they feel better about themselves. It's a gift to them, their classmates and the teacher.

This makes a great gift for someone who wants to improve performance while transforming stress for $310.00.

"Marianna Paulson introduced me to Heart Math & emWave and guided me through this very beneficial program. Marianna gave me meaningful assignments and allowed me the freedom to ask questions. She responded with thoughtful answers that help me discover what will work well in my life.

After going through this program I am calmer more often. Now when I get into a negative or stressful state I recover much faster by using the techniques I have learned. My blood sugar and blood pressure results are much better and are often in the normal range.

I highly recommend Marianna Paulson as a trainer/coach and the Heart Math & emWave tools to reap excellent health benefits." - B. McCartney, Surrey, BC
