Each night, before lights-out, I read in bed. A real book. Last week, by accident, I discovered that a book can help you get out of bed.
I don't know about you, but when I'm sore, I will sometimes use my fist to push myself up out of bed. hhh! Don't tell Anne. She does not like the extra strain that this places on the metacarpophalangeal joints - the knuckles. But, there are times when you gotta do what you gotta do.
Anyway, just as I was getting up, I was holding onto my book, with a locked wrist, and voilà! I suddenly had leverage!
By the way, it was a hardcover, which ordinarily, I don't like. I may have to reconsider that!
So as not to be so hard on those beloved books, I think a piece of wood might do the trick. I do have some ideas about how to make this sturdier and softer on the hands. I may have to run this idea by Maarten and James!.

yet another great idea! thanks…I use a kindle but it is still solid and in the case will serve the purpose if i need it to….
Hi Nan,
The one benefit of that particular book was that it was wide enough to provide a solid base. I’m concerned about the width of the Kindle.
