Mirthful Monday: A Seasonal Tale

Decades ago, in Communist Russia, there lived a man who was famous, not only in the city in which he lived, but from the east to the west and the north to the south. In fact, many other nations tried to poach him because of his great skill.

You see, Rudolph came from a long line of prognosticators. He had a very specific and accurate aptitude for predicting the weather.

Each evening, the Russian people would tune into the six o'clock news, just to hear Rudolph.

But one day, his forecast perplexed and angered his wife. He had just issued the following warning, "A violent storm is approaching. Prepare for rain. We'll have lots of heavy rain that will overflow the rivers and cause severe flooding."

When he got home, he was met at the door by his be-aproned wife, who vociferously expressed her fear that they would be made the laughing stock of the nation.

"You'll disgrace your family name!" she shouted. "There's not a cloud in the sky. Furthermore, my joints don't ache. Why have you predicted such nonsense?"

"I know what I know!" Rudolph emphatically stated.

But that wasn't the end of it. Back and forth they went, arguing all night, until they finally went to bed. Angry.

Upon awakening, Mrs. Rudolph threw back the drapes. She couldn't believe her eyes. There was water as far as she could see.

She ran over to wake Rudolph up and tell him that she was sorry for doubting his abilities.

"But how could it be?" she asked.

With a glint in his eye, he said, "Well, you see, Rudolph the Red, knows rain, dear!"
