So began my note to Amber, the approachable and knowledgeable proprietor of The Bookman, a delightful used book store with locations in Chilliwack and Abbotsford.
If you have rheumatoid arthritis, and/or a fused neck, it makes book hunting so much easier when you can look directly at the spine without craning your neck.
It's amazing how books connect us, isn't it? It's one of the reasons that I feel that books will last for a long time despite the advent of e-readers; I believe that people do not want insular experiences, and love the tactile pleasures of being in a bookstore, talking to other book lovers, and allowing books to "find them". I'm a bit biased mind you!
Yes, we are super passionate about the written word, books, people and creating a positive browsing experience at our stores. I love the little moments that happen all of the time; watching a huge, muscly man in army fatigues bend down and give our bookstore cat a gentle pat while crooning to him, babies getting busy chewing books and pulling them off of shelves - to the horror of their parents - and those magic moments of finding a book for someone that they've been looking for.
