#318 – An Unexpected Journey to Joy

"All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveler is unaware." - Martin Buber

Readers of this blog know that I have a profound love of water. I thought I knew of and had experienced most types of water activities and healing modalities, but a black, undulating, shoestring licorice-like paved highway on the east coast of The Big Island of Hawaii led me to my secret destination.

Fortunately, the owner of our vacation rental in Pahoa sent us for dinner at Kalani, a well-known retreat centre on the east coast of the Big Island.

After dinner, we visited the gift shop. Curiosity led me to their binder of services, which included the following intriguing description: Watsu®-Waterdance® training with the Trager Approach® principles.

After gathering more information, I decided to take the plunge and take part in this unexpected and perhaps not so serendipitous opportunity to revel in a warm water therapeutic massage by the highly skilled, amazingly intuitive and aptly named Sarah Lynn Joy.

After my session, in which time stopped, yet extended, my first words were, "That was un-freaking-believable!" It was and it still is, a week later.

This treatment is the ultimate for anyone who hurts, whether it be emotionally, mentally, physically or spiritually. The combination of Sarah Lynn's compassionate and gentle, yet targeted touch, plus the warm ninety-five degree Fahrenheit water not only caresses, but helps to free any restrictions. She was able to release my cranky spots, all without me having to tell her where they were. She's one of the best practitioners I've ever had working with me!

At the end, she gave me some Mentastics® exercises to do to help allow the body to remember how to move - something that is so important for those of us who have been ravaged by the rampant reaction of the immune system in rheumatoid arthritis. Mahalo.

If you go to the Big Island of Hawaii, I enthusiastically recommend that you include several sessions with Sarah Lynn Joy at Deep Wave Healing. I only had the one - I'm already plotting, planning and saving for my next trip!

Sarah Lynn Joy is too great a treasure to keep secret, so I hope you'll pass this post on to anyone who is travelling to the Big Island of Hawaii.

Please note that Sarah Lynn is no longer working at Kalani. She looks forward to treating you in her pool outside of Kona.
