#311 – Thrice Honoured

I love the outdoors; unfortunately, cycling and hiking are two activities that have been curtailed because of joint restrictions and limitations.

However, I have been fortunate in that I have some friends, who are adventurous and athletic - among other fine qualities - who have honoured me as they cycled, ran and walked their way to some grueling finish lines.

  1. Thanks to Connie for honouring me in The Arthritis Society's Joints in Motion Fundraiser. I know it wasn't easy, especially when she was dealing with a knee injury.
  2. Several years ago, Elaine and Arnie cycled El Camino de Santiago de Compostela. Along with the requisite travel necessities, they carried a small stone which was dropped in my honour on the small mountain of stones, constructed by other travellers doing the same thing.
  3. Another journey, another stone added to the pile along El Camino. This time, Connie brought "me" to the mountain, as she walked this historic and spiritual trail.

Thank you, friends!

For a taste of El Camino, I recommend watching The Way, starring Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez.

Of course, I would prefer to be the one crossing those finish lines; instead, I've learned to change and accept setting different goals. Goals such as completing a daily blog for one year. Or working towards swimming a mile, once again.

The one I dream about often, but doubt I can do, is to hike the Abel Tasman National Park in New Zealand. This photo was taken when we did a two-hour hike along that magical trail. Even in the pouring rain it was beautiful.
