#59 – Hoopin’ It Up!

There they were - a whole box of them - green and white, pink and white, blue and white - dragged over to the summer clearance section of the grocery store.

"Dare I? Oh, why not!" I liked the idea of resuming an activity that I once did; incidentally, that is not the norm when you have rheumatoid arthritis. Usually, activities are dropped, instead of added.

Are you curious?

I'm talking about hula hoops. At ninety-nine cents each, I bought two - a small and a large.

It's a wonderful way to sneak in some easy-to-do exercise. Well, exercise, anyway. Easy-to-do? Not quite. It seems that I've lost some of that hula'ing ability over the decades; nothing that a little practice won't rectify.

And, if you're questioning the validity of this as an exercise form, please watch this video or read this article.

Have you resumed an activity that you once did? How did it go?

  1. Thanks for sharing this, Marianna. Working out with hula hoops looks like fun…I may look for such a class by me ๐Ÿ™‚ I need to get back on the exercise horse, so to speak. And isn’t exercise that looks like fun the best type to engage in? because you’re more likely to stick with it…

    1. Hi Dorlee,

Those classes do look like a lot of fun. I think part of it is the nostalgia of simpler times.

Will you let me know if you join a class? I’d love to hear about your experiences.

  2. Most commercially available hoops are both too small and (especially) too light weight for adults. Hooping has become a new art form and excellent custom made hoops are available. Mine was made by a local woman, cost about $40, but is worth it’s weight in gold! Happy hooping.

    1. I was scouring the internet looking for a class – it looks like so much fun. I was thrilled to find a workshop in my community. But then, I dislocated my hip so activities such as hooping are curtailed until further notice. ๐Ÿ™

How long have you been hooping?

    1. Hooping is on hold for now thanks to a dislocated hip. ๐Ÿ™ Waiting to get the green-light after I see the surgeon.

Thanks for posting the link for others to check out.
