#14 – Scatter Rugs

Scatter rugs. One word: Don't.

They are fabricated landmines which can seriously injure someone or impair their recovery!

Someone I know had several scatter rugs placed in the home. A visiting relative (not me!) who had just recovered from knee surgery, tripped and dislocated the new knee.

It was back to the drawing board operating table and another three months of recuperation.

As attractive as scatter rugs may be, be aware that they can cause injury, regardless of one's mobility or age.

If you still want to put a mat down, here are two suggestions:

  1. There are products on the market that can prevent your mats from lifting, shifting and subsequently, possibly tripping.
  2. Look for heavier, rubber-backed ones that will remain where placed.

  1. The joint, whether it be organic or “manufactured”, is movable and “removable” – by doctors, or by some force, like a fall.
