Giveaway: Swimmer’s Snorkel

The folks at Finis have done it again. They're offering a giveaway for a chance to add one Swimmer's Snorkel to your swim bag. Win this giveaway and you're one snorkel closer to outfitting your entire family with snorkels. You know what they say - "The family that swims together, stays together!" As you can see, I have a pink one. They also make a junior model.

I have one for snorkeling in tropical waters; for swimming lengths in the pool, I have my pink Swimmer's Snorkel. Finis has been an important ally in allowing me to continue doing what I love - swimming through life with rheumatoid arthritis. Bilateral breathing in the front crawl is a challenge because I have fused vertebrae. The Swimmer's Snorkel allows me to to keep my head in the desirable neutral position. If you have any sort of degeneration in your neck, use a snorkel to continue swimming.

If you're working on improving either your front crawl or breast stroke, you can concentrate on doing the strokes properly - add in the correct breathing technique later. Get some Agility Paddles and you'll be creating quite a wake! If you are time-challenged, you might even shave off some pool time by using the snorkel. Finally, avoid boredom - use a variety of equipment to vary your workout.

  1. Thank you for the giveaway! Swimming is the perfect cross-training for runners and I have always had issues with learning how to turn my head when swimming freestyle. I had swallowing pool water by mistake! This snorkel would be great.

    1. You’re welcome!

By using this snorkel, you can experiment with your head positions, so when you do swim without it, you won’t “take a drink”.

  2. Swimming is the ultimate exercise for my Rheumatoid Arthritis and the only one that doesn’t hurt and actually helps! The swim snorkel is yet another example of you writing about the things I’m thinking about. I would love to have a swim snorkel for lap sessions after my Aqua Aerobics class at the local YMCA. Like so many others, constantly turning my neck while swimming creates a problem rather than relieving the ones I brought with me. Personally, I benefit most from the deep-water aerobics because there is zero weight-bearing throughout the entire hour. The shallow-water class uses styrofoam water weights that kill a Rheumatoid Arthritic wrist. So I’ve found I benefit most from the deep-water stretches and a few laps afterwards. Keeping my head stationary would keep me in the pool longer with less Aleve, later. Swimming is how I self-medicate, I chat with other swimmers and get interested in their lives, I exercise without paying for it, and with careful sunscreen application, get a little glow. My adult son says I’m happier after I swim, and I agree. Keep-up the great writing, it matters to us. Cheers!

    1. Bravo to you for getting and staying in the swim, Gina!

I’ve found everything you’ve said to be true. Additionally, my feet took a pounding in the shallow water classes.

I’m sorry that you missed my giveaway for Agility Paddles – I outlined the benefits on this post – Paddle Your Way into This Giveaway.

      Best of luck!

  3. Thank you for linking up to the Small Victories Sunday linky. I have pinned this to our board. Have a great week! This looks like such a neat piece of equipment for anyone that swims. I will have to check it out.

  4. Thank you, Marianna! I was lucky enough to win the FINIS center mount swim snorkel! The snorkel is comfortable, even for this girl who has degenerating discs in her neck. I experimented with using a nose-clip, and using the snorkel without a nose-clip, and honestly both were equally easy for me. The ability to keep my neck and head stationary while kicking with a pair of training swim fins made the pool seem shorter. I enjoyed my laps so much more due to the fact that I can cover so much more territory, like those with advanced skills.

The center mount snorkel was also a bit of a conversation piece at first, so I didn’t expect the attention from the lifeguards, but they loved it, too and were eager to see it and discuss. So, I ended-up getting a bit of welcome advice from the more experienced swimmers, who also want one for their training.

You want cardio? Get one of these snorkels and a pair of training fins. I had no idea what a great work-out swimming could be because I couldn’t swim long enough before this to get my heart rate going. My heart beats plenty, now! I have the opportunity to go farther without hurting my myself or drinking the pool. The only problem is that I don’t want to get out of the pool.

So grateful, thank you, again! To anyone, especially people like me with Rheumatoid Arthritis, the FINIS center mount swim snorkel makes swimming more fun and a better work-out.
